| Cat Ownership Around Australia |
|
Acccording to the 2005 Statistics, cat ownership around the states of Australia makes for some pretty interesting reading... So, if you are wondering where all the cats are in Australia, wonder no more! NSW: 804,000 Victoria: 599,000 Queensland: 443,000 Western Australia: 261,000 South Australia/NT: 227,000 Tasmania: 92,000 Total: 2,426,000 So, as you can see these are some pretty big number, cats making up 6.35% of total pet ownship in Australia. Now, (I can hear you wondering) I bet you are wondering what type of pet makes up the biggest percentage of pets? Fish! Yes, they don't play fetch, they don't like being scratched behind the ears (do they have ears?), they don't come when you call them, they don't make a noise when a stranger enters the property, you can't take them for a walk (but then you don't need to follow them around with a plastic bag either), and they simply don't look the part when laying across your lap on a cool winters night in front of the fire do they? So, fish make up the biggest percentage of the pet population in Australia - a whopping 52% of all pets are these water dwelling creatures! That's something like 20 million fish occupying Australian households...now that is a lot of fish food...and a lot of fish pooh too! By the way birds as pets are the second biggest pet ownership type coming in at 23% of the total population...now I have a tree that is frequented by a flock of Cockatoos - do they count? And I just love those dawn wake up calls too... |
