Dog Superstitions  E-mail

There are quite a number of superstitions attributed to the beloved dog, some common, some not so common and some...well just plain weird!

In Greece , dogs were believed to foresee evil.

Dogs were believed capable of sensing supernatural influences like ghosts, fairies and the like.

A howling dog at night was considered back luck or a sign that someone close to you would become very sick or die.

A dog howling outside the house of a sick person was said to be a sign that that person would die.

In some parts of the world, a black dog is considered unlucky.

A newborn baby licked by a dog will always be a fast healer.

A dog eating grass is said to be a sign of rain to come.

A Scottish superstition holds that a strange dog coming to the house means a new friendship.

In England , meeting a spotted or black and white dog on the way to a business appointment is believed to be lucky.

Three white dogs together are a sign of good luck.
